Rank Math vs Yoast is one of the first decisions on a new WordPress site.
Where we’re coming from: Hagaha.com runs on WordPress and uses Rank Math SEO (version 1.0.280 at the time of writing). The Rank Math notes below come from running it on this site. We have not run Yoast on Hagaha, so everything we say about Yoast comes from its official documentation, and we label it that way.
Rank Math vs Yoast: quick verdict
- Rank Math gives you more in the free version, notably a redirection manager and a 404 monitor. That makes it a strong choice for new sites on a zero budget.
- Yoast SEO has the larger user base and a longer track record. Several features that Rank Math includes free (redirects, for example) are part of Yoast SEO Premium, priced at $118.80 per year (ex VAT) per site.

Our experience with Rank Math on Hagaha
[First-hand; limited to what we have actually done]
- Setup: Rank Math was configured on a fresh WordPress and Elementor site without needing a premium add-on for the basics: titles, meta descriptions, sitemaps and breadcrumbs.
- Schema output: our article pages currently output BlogPosting, BreadcrumbList, WebPage, WebSite and Person structured data. We confirmed this by viewing the page source. It required no custom code.
- What we would change:
- Our author entity is thin, because the author bio is empty. That is a site problem, not a plugin problem, but the plugin cannot fix it for you.
- Structured data is only as good as the information behind it.
We will add Yoast observations only after we complete a side-by-side test install (see the checklist below).
Pricing: where the real difference shows
Yoast
- Charges per site: $118.80/year for one site with Premium.
- If you manage several sites, the cost multiplies.
Rank Math
- Sells tiered plans. PRO is aimed at personal sites, and Business and Agency at client sites, with higher keyword-tracking limits.
- On the day we checked, Rank Math’s page showed prices in EUR with a seasonal discount, so we don’t quote a USD figure. Check the Rank Math pricing page for your region.
Practical takeaway: if you need redirects and multiple focus keywords but have no budget, Rank Math’s free plan covers them. If you prefer Yoast’s long track record and are happy to pay for redirects and internal-linking suggestions, Yoast Premium is a straightforward per-site subscription.
Switching between them
- Both plugins can coexist in a site’s history, but don’t run them at the same time. Duplicate meta tags and schema cause problems.
- Rank Math’s official migration guide describes importing Yoast data in the setup wizard, or later via Rank Math SEO → Status & Tools → Import & Export. Redirects from Yoast Premium are imported separately.
- Before switching, take a full backup. Afterwards, re-check a few key pages’ titles, meta descriptions, canonical tags and redirects.
Who should choose which?

Choose Rank Math if:
- You run a new or small site and want redirects and a 404 monitor without paying.
- You want Google Search Console data inside WordPress.
- You want several focus keywords per post on the free plan.
Choose Yoast SEO if:
- You value the plugin with the largest install base and long-established documentation.
- Your team already knows Yoast’s workflow.
- You will pay for Premium anyway and like its internal-linking and orphaned-content tools.
You may not need Premium of either if:
- You publish a few posts a month and handle redirects with your host or another free plugin.
Frequently asked questions
Is Rank Math better than Yoast? Neither is objectively better. Rank Math includes more in its free version, such as redirects, a 404 monitor and up to 5 focus keywords. Yoast has more active installations and a longer track record. Choose based on which features you would otherwise pay for.
Does Yoast SEO free include redirects? No. Yoast lists the redirect manager as a Premium feature.
How much is Yoast SEO Premium? $118.80 per year, excluding VAT, for one site, according to Yoast’s product page on October 30, 2026.
Can I switch from Yoast to Rank Math without losing my SEO settings? Rank Math provides an importer for Yoast data. Back up first, deactivate the old plugin after importing, and spot-check important pages.
Conclusion
- For most new WordPress sites, Rank Math’s free feature set is the stronger starting point. That is why we use it on Hagaha.
- Yoast remains a solid, widely used choice, especially if you plan to pay for Premium.
- Whichever you pick, the plugin is a tool. Rankings still come from useful content, a sound site structure and real authority.
